On Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 this difference didn’t cause error. I found out they had different time stamp in the digital signature: The libraries in merge modules have time stamp of J11 o’clock, and the libraries in vcredist_圆4.exe are signed on J6 o’clock: Yet two files from the assemblies differ from each other. The versions and the sizes of these files are the same in both cases. The CRT assembly contains three files: msvcm80.dll, msvcp80.dll, msvcr80.dll. I decided to compare the contents of C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_7.4053 after installing the libraries using merge-modules and using vcredist_圆4.exe. MSI (s) (E0:E0) : Assembly Error:The identities of the manifests are identical but their contents are different. Verbose log (obtained with msiexec /i prod.msi /l*v msi.log) contains the following entries:

Microsoft has no way of emulating all software on everyone computers in the whole world, so perhaps when you upgraded and then downgraded, something just got corrupt and there was something on your system that they didn't test with, etc.
If all else fails, you can backup your important data, and then do a fresh wipe of your HD and install a fresh copy of Windows. that's already installed then the system start having strange problems. I've seen this too many times where someone installs some old component or software as such on top of newer software, etc. just get out of wack.įor example, if you have some component (or software) of the 20 version you need, it's best to install the oldest first (2005) and then once that is complete install the newest (2008). as such, you have to install them in the order based on their version or things in the Windows registry, DLL component, etc. Note, sometimes with the SQL Server and Visual Studio and other components, software, etc. If there are any other prerequisite components installed on this system for SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling those as well - see notes below If you have Visual Studio installed, you may want to consider uninstalling and reinstalling it as well You may want to ensure this is installed (or uninstall re-install)

Then I upgraded to Windows 10 without problems. Scenario: using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express under Windows 7 without problems.
